Ms. Wertner is pleased to be teaching music education at St. John the Baptist. She is trained as a percussionist and specializes in mallet percussion instruments like the marimba that is currently in the music classroom. She also plays classical guitar, has written her own songs, and sings as an alto member of the cathedral choir. She believes that appreciating and creating music (especially music that is beautiful!) are foundational aspects of the human person. She hopes that students can discover more about who they are created to be and who God is through cultivating the art of music at St. Johns.
Ms. Wertner first came to St. Johns as part of the community of Franciscan Sisters who lived in the convent at Providence House between the years of 2010-2012. Her community then pioneered the first contemplative monastery in the Diocese of Fort Wayne - South Bend for 10 years before it had to close in 2022. During her transition out of monastic life, Ms. Wertner taught music part-time during the 2023-2024 school year at St. Joseph Hessen Cassel and St. Rose of Lima School in Monroeville. Now Ms. Wertner is grateful to have the opportunity to teach full-time at St. John the Baptist which she is happy to call home again. She continues to live a prayerful life and aspires to live her consecrated vocation in the new path that the Lord is setting before her.
