"I was an excited second grader when my parents purchased the home organ we had seen at the Home Show at the Coliseum. They taught me all they could for two years and then let me take lessons from the teacher across the street. I was also involved with school choirs from the fifth grade through high school and later at church until we needed an organist, at which time I studied with a teacher of church organists. By then Dick and I were married and had our first two children. I was the church organist for over 25 years and am now the pianist. In January of 1994, when Jeanette had just turned one, I started teaching piano at home, partly out of concern of where the next generation of church musicians was coming from and from a love of the students, a love of music, and a love of teaching. The teacher who mentored me as a piano teacher introduced me to the other teachers in the Northeast Indiana chapter of Music Teachers National Association, in which I chair our annual Achievement in Music Festival held at Purdue Fort Wayne, my alma mater. When Joel and Alicia were married and gone from home, my husband remodeled the back of the house into a piano studio away from any family traffic. In 2008 I gladly accepted an invitation to begin teaching piano at St. John and have delighted in sharing my love of music with the students ever since. It is especially a privilege to watch them grow up from the young children I began teaching to, in a few cases, seniors graduating from high school. I hope that making music will always be a rich part of their lives!"
